QPS Applications
The QPSi will serve as an education hub and resource for health care professionals, students, caregivers, leaders, board members and policymakers on quality, patient safety and value in health care.
QPS Applications
The QPSi has a unique opportunity to leverage the University of Florida’s computational resources to offer innovative and transformational workforce development programs for health care professionals in the state. These training programs will offer experiential boots-on-the-ground work in our healthcare system and in-person and web-based education on the fundamentals of quality, patient safety, population health, value, and the patient experience.
Recent Highlights in the QPS Applications Program (Q-Apps)
QPSi initiatives are improving the quality and patient safety (QPS) culture while providing caregivers with the resources to undertake QPS projects in their work units. These QPSi initiatives will build the foundation for robust training programs that will benefit patients and providers.
Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program
CUSP
Over the past two years, teams from UF College of Medicine and UF Health Shands were trained in the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP), initially developed by Johns Hopkins patient safety researchers. The program aims to improve the culture of patient safety while providing health teams with the tools and support to address patient-safety hazards. The CUSP training initiative has resulted in physician-nurse dyads throughout UF Health, leading teams to set and pursue quality and safety goals specific to their unit's needs, with more projects to follow.
MANAGEMENT, DISCUSSION & ANALYSIS SUMMARY
MD&A Summary
A new tool for Quality Improvement, Patient Safety and Service – the Management, Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) summary – is being phased in across clinical departments in the College of Medicine. The MD&A summary serves as a common framework on which discussions on quality and safety issues can be discussed at all levels of the institution, improving communication and enriching understanding in the quality space both horizontally and vertically across the system. This tool will provide departments with the opportunity to advance the culture of continuous improvement with projects implemented under the categories of Patient Safety, Improving Patient Outcomes, Patient Experience, and Enhancing Value.
The quality and patient safety projects resulting from these initiatives will contribute to a menu of experiential learning opportunities for participants of QPSi training programs.
